I am trying to determine how I feel about my progress so far in my GAME Plan. I'm really not sure how I feel. Part of me feels that I have taken great strides to improve my ability to better engage my students in the use of technology as well as have created opportunities for collaboration. I am finding information and resources that I need, however, if time is a resource then maybe not! First I want to say that "assignment" wise it is getting done and will get done. I am definitely using technology in my class and my students are loving it and learning from it! What more could I ask for? However in light of the quarter ending and assessments that need to be done the 2nd goal I chose, the collaboration piece hasn't progresses as much. My initial thought was to work with my students to create a class webpage, however it is harder than I thought. I do believe that I may need to modify my action plan and am really seeking a way to do that now. I really want students to have the opportunity to collaborate not just with other students, but I would like to connect home and school and peers and other classrooms! If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate them!
I have absolutely learned that some things are easier said than done. No matter what I learn or want to implement in my classroom, I have to think about what is realistic and creating a class web page with kindergartners being actively involved is not possible! Therefore although I have made progress, I still have a lot of work to do, and a lot to think about!

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about finding time to get everything done. Two suggestions that I have for you to continue to meet you goal on collaboration are a Wiki or a Blog. It sounds like you might benefit more from a Wiki. This is a great place to create a webpage for your class. Students can access information as well as help construct the page and post work and assignments. It takes a little time to set up, but it is a great learning tool. Good luck with your goals.
Sarah, it looks like you are on the right track to accomplish the goals you set in your GAME plan. You spoke of improving your ability to better engage your students in the use of technology as well as creating opportunities for collaboration. If you continue to follow your GAME plan these opportunities will be provided to your students and their proficiency in technology will be increased, in addition to their curricular knowledge.

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of a way to include younger students on a class web page activity and I came up with an idea I would like to share, you could possibly use a wiki to do either idea. I know the kinder kids at my school are writing at a variety of levels, but most are very basic, perhaps the class could dictate a story to you for you to write, then the students could illustrate the story and they could be posted on the wiki. Another suggestion is the students could illustrate what they have learned that week and it could be posted on the wiki to share with their parents. These ideas could be labor intensive for you but possibly some students could help with the scanning and posting of their pictures. Let me know what you think of my suggestions, and if you try one did it work. Good Luck, I know this time of year is very busy and teachers are very tired.

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI think you said what everyone is feeling....That technology is great, but it take LOTS of frontloading and planning time before you can even begin to use it. Hopefully this will get easier the more we do it!

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteWow I agree with you completely. Time does not seem to be on our sides on a daily basis. I do admire your desire to incorporate technology with your kindergarten students. Just think of how much more they have learned and how prepared they will be for using technology in other grades.

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI commend you on your effort! All we can really do is try our best to do what we feel is needed for our students to learn. It all becomes so hard, especially if you're like me who is still learning how to use all this technology. I think that we just need to take baby steps and really think thoroughly about what it means to incorporate technology, and how it will benefit our students. The pressure to do everything all at once just makes it that much harder. What you are doing so far shows that you are at least willing to try, and that's half the battle! Good Luck with the rest of your goals!
Thank you! I am very appreciative of your ideas! I am currently exploring the Wiki idea...I would like to maybe try this with my kids next year and start it earlier? I am beginning to think that is my "hold-up" with creating it now. Thanks everyone!
